I have a bird feeder that I watch with growing obsession. Soon, the visitors will all have names. Now, only the four juvenile (delinquent) cardinals and Old Lady Wren have names.
I have been watching Old Lady Wren for a while, and she is matriarch of the back deck. Tiny and implacable, she is Maggie Smith on the Downton Feeder.
I would also like to express my thanks to The Micropoets Society. The venue is a wonderful place to develop ideas into a larger work. The ideas I had for Old Wren continued to develop, and I have created a longer poem based off of it.
If you are interested in trying similar techniques, I recommend using "micro venues" - many of which have daily or weekly prompts - to start your ideas.
